Solution to NHS Bed Blocking

Bed blocking is one of the major problems, our NHS England, is daily struggling to resolve. A ‘bed blocker’ refers to someone already treated after visit to the secondary care services (hospital) and is unable to leave hospital and return to their own home, even though they do not need medical treatment or care.1 in 3-7 beds at some hospitals are occupied by people in this situation, which is not of their own deliberate action. They are often fit for discharge but can’t leave because the social care they need isn’t available. Bed blocking cost on average £5 million each day to the Health Services. Nearly 20,000 people a day are waiting for at least four hours in A&E, and NHS England has admitted that delayed discharges are 25% higher year-on-year.

We at Cedar Care Consult aim to support our health services in rapid transfer and provision of temporal accommodation in the community or at their home to free up beds in the hospitals.
